    Marcos Santilli (Assis SP 1951)

    Photographer, curator and cultural producer.

    In the early 1970s, José Marcos Brando Santilli left the art and architecture course at the University of Brasília – UnB to act as a photojournalist in the Diário de Brasília and Jornal de Brasília newspapers. He studied photography at the Agfa Gevaert School in 1973, in London, and back in Brazil between 1974 and 1978, he photographed for the Editora Abril branch in Brasília. At the same time, it begins the project of audiovisual and photographic documentation of social and environmental changes in Rondônia and Acre. In the early 1980s, he moved to São Paulo and works at the Documentation and Arts Institute of the City Hall. Focused on improving the working conditions of photographers in 1977 and 1978, he became vice president of the Union of Photographers of Brasília and, from 1981 to 1982, of the Union of Photographers of São Paulo, and is one of the founding members of the Nucleus of Friends of Photography – NAFoto. From 1998 to 2003, he directed the São Paulo Image and Sound Museum – MIS / SP. In the course of his career, he received several scholarships in the areas of photography, film, video and computer science, among which are the ones awarded by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in 1981, Fundação Vitae in 1988, and The Fulbright Commission, in 1989. He is the author of the books Are, 1987; Madeira-Mamore Image and Memory, 1987; And Amazon – A Young Reader’s Look at the Last Frontier, 1991.
