The March to the West: history, registry, memory
The paths taken us years of experience as a photographer, the Federal Government, enabled me to approach people, places, collections and historical facts that were crucial to sharpen the look and the precise angle at the time of the photographic record.
Access to information and the job allowed me to receive the fragments of a photo library, intended for disposal, belonging to the former Central Brazil Foundation that brought to light the March to the West, in the year 1943 with its “Roncador-Xingu Expedition”.
This exhibition ‘The March to the West: history, registry, memory “is the continuation of that day that I took the acquis and sharpened my senses to systematize the work of documentary photography, and inspired and redirected my eyes and forked my way, research .
Yield will deepen. The paths and searches began. Travel the country, where I had access to photo collections of residents of small towns between the cities of Aragarças (GO) and Xavantina (MT), who participated in the march. I searched in collections of public and private institutions in the cities of Brasilia, Belem, Cuiaba, Goiania, Macapa, Maraba, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Came the need to organize these images that reflect the work of numerous and anonymous photographers, professionals and amateurs.
Manifested as imperative, the commitment to return to society the collection of historical testimony that occupation.
